Michael Levitis  00:00

Good day everybody. This is Michael Levitis, from JurisQ.com with Matthew Sullivan, a partner in the law firm of Gregory Spektor and Associates, a personal injury firm. Matthew, we had you on before, we thank you for your time. And all you handle are construction accidents. And I want to get back to the basics. I want to educate the public on what it takes to sue, if you get injured at a construction site, at your work. Let’s call it construction accidents 101.

Matthew Sullivan  00:42

Absolutely. In New York, where our firm is based, we understand that construction work is some of the most dangerous work that can be performed. And because of that the laws, again in New York, are particularly designed to protect workers on construction sites, from the hazards that they may experience, including falling from ladders falling from scaffolds, tripping over debris, electrocution, it runs the gamut.

And again, the laws are designed to protect the workers. One way that they are allowed to one way excuse me, that they do protect the workers is by allowing that worker to go after the owner, the general contractor or the construction site manager of the site. Okay, even though the owner or construction site manager, maybe some company that’s never even been on the site, we call defendants.

Michael Levitis  01:40

Sorry, as a follow up to my questions, just to clarify matters. So this is what you call in legalese defendants, right. These are the possible defendants are the companies or people you can sue if you get injured, right. Okay.

Matthew Sullivan  01:54

Absolutely. And the law allows to go after those defendants, even if they didn’t cause the accident, because we understand in New York, how serious construction site injuries are, and how much money in insurance, those defendants are likely to have. Whenever you’re injured on a construction site, you have the right in New York to go after the owner of that site, okay, construction manager, or the general contractor.

Michael Levitis  02:21

Very good. So that means it gives you a firm, multiple avenues to recover damages. If somebody gets injured, let’s say a general contractor, contractor is bankrupt, you can’t find him anymore. You can go after the property owner.

Matthew Sullivan  02:43

Absolutely correct.

Michael Levitis  02:45

So it’s very important to go to an attorney, if you get injured, to analyze all these possible ways, how you can collect and from whom you can collect, because you can be gravely injured. However, it is no less so to speak money on the table, you’re not gonna get compensated. So it’s very important to find all the parties that could be responsible for your injury, got an attorney like yourself, and get your case, analyze. And I understand you could do it for free, right?

Matthew Sullivan  03:21

you’re absolutely correct. At Gregory Spektor and Associates, we only get paid at the end of the case, the consultation is free, or all of the litigation costs we put up front, we only get paid when we win your case.

Michael Levitis  03:35
